EQUITABLE MOBILITY ACTION PLAN
The Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG) recognizes an increasing need to plan for and address the mobility needs of the Michiana region. The ability of the transportation system to effectively, efficiently, and equitably connect residents to the places they need to access is a driving force to the economic success of the region. As such, the goal should not just provide fast and safe transportation, but also provide accessible and convenient transportation options that meet the crucial needs of residents and enhance the region’s quality of life.
The Equitable Mobility Action Plan (EMAP) sets a framework focused on defining and understanding accessibility in the Michiana region through establishing regional benchmarks and identifying gaps and barriers in the accessibility of the transportation network. It sets regional policies and local actions designed to address the identified gaps in accessibility and improve current benchmarks of residents’ ability to reach needed core services and job opportunities.
Planning Process
Participate
MACOG will be engaging a wide range of organizations and people for this plan; including human and social service agencies, transportation providers, educational institutions, employers, and the various users of transportation services. If you are interested in providing input, please sign up for our mailing list. We will contact you when other surveys or other engagement opportunities are taking place.
A survey is available through the fall to gather information regarding how people travel in the region, what allows them or prevents them from being able to access the services they need, and ideas for opportunities to improve transportation services in the region.
Additionally, we are looking to connect with people who wish to share how they travel to their needed destinations and what barriers they face in doing so. If you would like to have a conversation with us about your experience click "Tell us your story" below.
MACOG will be working to identify where gaps in accessibility currently exist and establishing strategies to improve how people reach needed core services and job opportunities. The graphic below provides a snapshot of the planning process, which will conclude Spring 2020.
